RAft and rappel

We’ve partnered with Cascade Canyon Guides to give you a full day of fun activities in one package deal
Start your morning exploring the rugged beauty of the Lower Deschutes River canyons with a guided hike and rappelling experience. Then, beat the afternoon heat with a refreshing half-day rafting trip on the river. both Excursions happen just outside of Maupin, OR

Book a half-day rappelling + half-day rafting experience and get 15% off per person. This off the beaten path adventure will include a steep 1 mile hike with sweeping views of the high desert Deschutes landscape. Followed by 3 adrenaline filled rappels 50 to 100 feet high through a basalt canyon.

  • The first part of your exciting day, the rappelling portion, meets at 8:30 am at the Nena Day Use Area in Maupin, OR

After rappelling, you’ll drive about 15 minutes to the Deschutes River Adventures raft shop in downtown Maupin to pick up your sack lunch and check in for your 1:30 pm rafting trip. There is a park across the street where you can hang out and enjoy lunch.

  • We need at least 4 people to make a Raft and Rappel trip happen and we can accomodate groups up to 10. If you have a larger group than 10, please call us to discuss options.

  • Pre Requisites for this Rappelling adventure:

    • Able to hike 3 miles

    • Able to hike on steep, rocky and slippery terrain

    • Able to carry a 10lb pack

Pre Requisites for whitewater rafting the Deschutes river:

    • Able to walk on uneven, rocky terrain at the put-in and takeout

    • Able to sit in a raft with your knees bent to 90 degrees for extended periods of time

    • Some swimming knowledge reccommended. You’ll be wearing a lifejacket the whole time so you don’t need to be an expert swimmer, but there is always a possibility of falling out of the raft and into the river. it’s not a frequent occurance and our expert guides always do their best to keep everyone in the raft.

  •  Canyoning is a technical, team sport that requires specific equipment, skills and expertise to descend otherwise impassable canyons.

This is done by rappelling, swimming, sliding, down-climbing, hiking & wading.

Canyoning is truly for anyone willing to demonstrate the respect it merits. We all have different skills and canyoning gives every one of us a chance to succeed in different ways. Also, it’s really FUN!

  • We take kids who are 7 years old and up and weigh at least 45 lbs. They have a blast!

  • Because this is a special collaboration with Cascade Canyon Guides and Deschutes River Adventures, our timing is not flexible. We’re currently offering this trip only at the 8:30 am start time. The Rappelling is from 8:30 - 12 pm and the Rafting is from 1:30 - 5 pm, with a sack lunch break in between. A full day of adventures for under $200? Wooohooo!
